1. Japanese Major

Training Objectives: In accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Education’s Teaching Syllabus of Japanese major, for the purpose of substantial basic, all-round knowledge and high quality, the Japanese Major aims to cultivate compound talents who have solid basic knowledge, proficient professional skills, and proficient in using Japanese and English, pays attention to the broadening of students’ knowledge and accumulation of foundation, while striving to cultivate their application and practical abilities in the cultivation plan and curriculum design.  

Training requirements: people-oriented, substantial foundation, practice-first, distinctive, to cultivate compound talents with solid professional skills, strong adaptability and practical application abilities, fully respect students’ individual development and cultivate talents with distinctive characteristics, attach importance to practical teaching, make full use of teaching practice on and off campus and form specialized features.

Major disciplines: Basic Japanese, Advanced Japanese

Major courses: Japanese Audio-visual Speaking, Japanese Extensive Reading, Japanese Writing, Japanese Literature, Applied Japanese (Economic and Trade Japanese, Tourism Japanese, Workplace Japanese), Japanese-Chinese Translation Theory and Practice, etc.

Main internship: production internship, innovation and entrepreneurship training, and graduation thesis.

Major professional practices: Japanese speech, translation workshop, interpretation workshop, and business Japanese training.

Direction of students’ further study: Japanese Language and Literature, World Economy (Japanese Economy), World History (Japanese History), Simultaneous Interpretation, etc.

Vocational orientation: Graduates can work in education, foreign affairs, enterprises, tourism, foreign-related economic and trade departments, scientific research institutes and government agencies for Japanese teaching, Japanese studies research, translation, and foreign-related communication, etc.

2. Chinese Literature Major

Training Objectives: Chinese Literature Major aims to cultivate s specialized talents who have a solid foundation in language and writing, literary theories, culture and art, and strong abilities in words application, communication, organization and coordination, and can engage in scientific research, teaching, creation, propagation, planning, and secretarial work in scientific institutions, schools, enterprises and institutions, etc. 

Major courses: Ancient Chinese Literature History, Modern Chinese Literature History, Contemporary Chinese Literature History, Foreign Literature History, Modern Chinese, Ancient Chinese, Introduction to Literature, Introduction to Linguistics, Introduction to Chinese Culture, Introduction to World Culture, etc.

Main internship: Production Practice (4 weeks), Term Paper (2 weeks), Graduation Thesis (12 weeks)

Major professional practices: applied writing, creative industry and design management, art and culture market investigation and practice, film and TV drama adaptation and creation, urban cultural development and dissemination, scientific paper reading and writing.

Vocational orientation: Graduates can engage in secretarial and management work in various enterprises and institutions, party and government organs, work in propaganda and planning departments of various government organs and scientific research institutions, and undertake research and development of cultural industry in press and publication, advertising, education, cultural and museum exhibition and other types of enterprises and institutions.

Professional strength: The major has a master’s degree in Chinese Language and Literature as a first-level discipline, with 30 professional teachers, including 27 with doctoral degrees and 18 with senior professional titles. They are a high-quality and high-level teaching and research team with nearly 30 scientific research projects at the provincial, ministerial and national levels.

3. English Major

Training Objectives: As a first-class undergraduate major in Jiangsu Province, the English major aims to cultivate English language professionals and interdisciplinary English language talents with a sense of patriotism, good comprehensive quality, solid English language skills, strong intercultural communication abilities, and substantial English professional knowledge, who can adapt to the needs of national and local economic construction and social development, and use English proficiently to engage in foreign-related industries, English education and teaching, academic research and other related fields.

 

Training requirements: English major students are required to conduct basic training in English language skills such as listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating, able to proficiently apply knowledge and skills in interpretation and translation, and master professional knowledge in linguistics, literature and translation.

Main internship: English Comprehensive Ability Practice, Computer-Aided Translation, Business English Listening and Negotiation.

Major professional practices: speech and debate, graduation internships, graduation thesis.

Direction of students’ further study: Graduates can apply for academic master’s degree in English Language and Literature, Linguistics and Applied Linguistics in Foreign Languages, and professional master’s degree in Translation of domestic and foreign universities. Outstanding students can qualify for postgraduate recommendation and participate in cooperative programs with foreign universities.

Vocational orientation: Graduates can engage in foreign affairs, secretarial and foreign trade work in the government and various institutions, foreign-related enterprises or social organizations, and relevant departments of trade and tourism, and work as English teachers or teaching manager in various primary and secondary schools and foreign language training institutions.

4. Translation Major

Training Objectives: As a national first-class undergraduate major, the major aims to cultivate interdisciplinary translators with core socialist values, solid English foundation, broad knowledge, comprehensive development of morality, intelligence and physical fitness and competent in international exchanges, language services, cultural education and other fields.

Training requirements: The program requires students to have rich knowledge of Chinese and English cultures, solid language foundation, systematic translation theories and practices, strong interpretation and translation skills, teamwork consciousness and innovation spirit.

Major courses: Integrated English, English Audio-Visual Speaking, English Writing, Chinese and Foreign Cultural Exchanges, Translation Criticism and Appreciation, Legal Translation, Economic and Trade Translation, Advanced Interpretation, Translation Workshop.

Main internship: Comprehensive English Proficiency Practice, Computer Aided Translation, Translation Project Management.

Major professional practice: speech and debate, graduation internship, graduation thesis

Direction of students’ further study: Graduates can apply for academic master’s degree in English Language and Literature, Linguistics and Applied Linguistics in Foreign Languages, and interdisciplinary studies, and professional master’s degree in Translation of domestic, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and international foreign universities. 5. Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages

Training Objectives: The major aims to cultivate compound and applied talents who have systematic knowledge of linguistics, are familiar with Chinese and foreign languages, literature and cultures, good oral expression skills, and are proficient in the teaching laws and teaching methods of Chinese international education.

Major courses: Ancient Chinese Literature, Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, Foreign Literature, Introduction to Literature, Modern Chinese, Ancient Chinese, Introduction to Linguistics, Chinese Cultural Topics, Introduction to Second Language Teaching, Methods of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, Educational Psychology, Spoken Chinese for Teachers, Chinese Writing, Intercultural Communication.

Main internship: Production Practice (4 weeks), Term Paper (2 weeks), Graduation Thesis (12 weeks)

Major professional practice: Teaching methods of Chinese as a foreign language, Chinese writing, advertising culture and design, Chinese painting techniques, paper-cutting techniques, comprehensive skills training in secretarial work, practice of teaching Chinese as a foreign language

Direction of students’ further study: Chinese International Education Journalism and Communication Folklore Art Education History History of Science and Technology Management Science Chinese Literature

Vocational orientation: Graduates can engage in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, or intercultural communication and dissemination in domestic and foreign press, cultural management and various enterprises and institutions.
